Analysis of the latest Express Entry draw
The most recent Canada Express Entry draw is a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw.
This is another historically small CEC draw. The last CEC draw on October 22 only issued 400 Invitations to Apply (ITA) making it the smallest CEC draw ever. And this latest CEC draw matches that historic low with only 400 ITAs issued again.
The draw before the October 22 one only (on October 9) issued 500 ITAs but before that the 2024 CEC draws had been issuing thousands of ITAs.
For comparison, the average number of ITAs issued in CEC draws up to September 2024 was 3,829 per draw.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off for this draw is also noteworthy, it’s the second highest CRS score cut-off ever – behind one in 2015.
You can check out the full history of all the draws in the table and charts below.

Complete Express Entry draw history charts
We’ve analysed the complete Express Entry draw history from the first draw in 2015 right through to the most recent draw in 2024.
The following analysis shows the CRS score cut offs and the 5 draw rolling average to highlight trends. The analysis is split into different draw types:
- those draws that didn’t target a specific immigration program or targeted FSW candidates only (this is the one for Federal Skilled Workers (FSW)).
- Category based draws. In which we’ve done slightly different analysis.
- those draws that targeted specific programs: Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) draw history (i.e. FSW and all-programs draw): CRS score cut offs and trend chart

Express Entry draw history: number of ITAs issued and CRS score cut offs
Here is the full Express Entry draw history: all previous rounds of invitations since the first in 2015 with the CRS score and how many ITAs (Invitations to Apply) were issued.
With the EE draw history, keep in mind that each draw is different. For example a draw might only target one of the three immigration programs managed by Express Entry. So if you’re comparing prior CRS cut offs with your own score, make sure you’re looking at the draws that would cover your program.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the method through which Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) assess how many points your Express Entry Profile gets. The minimum latest CRS score needed to be picked from the pool changes from draw to draw.

Data source: IRCC CRS score distribution of candidates
What happens if multiple candidates have the cut-off CRS score?
If more than one candidate has the CRS cut-off score, then the person/people who submitted their Express Entry profile first gets the Invitation to Apply.
How many people are invited to apply in each Express Entry draw?
The average number of people invited to apply in each “all-programs” draw since 2017 is 3,582 (2017 is when numbers started to be consistently high).
But looking more recently, if we take all the “all-program” draws in 2020 to 2022 the average number of people invited to apply was 3,846. Keep in mind there were no “all-program” draws at all in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The range that IRCC seem to be targeting for “all-program” draws most recently (late 2022 and into 2023) seems to be around 5,000 ITAs issued however.
When will the next Express Entry draw be?
There is no definitive schedule for when Express Entry draws take place or the Express Entry next draw date.
IRCC only says that draws are held “about every 2 weeks”.
But, looking at previous rounds of invitations, draws are normally held two weeks apart on a Wednesday. Every Express Entry Draw in 2022 was on a Wednesday in fact.
Express Entry next draw date 2024
If we’re trying to predict the Express Entry next draw date in 2024 it’s not quite as easy because things weren’t as structured in 2023 or so far in 2024 as you can see from the infographic above.
The first two draws of 2024 were two weeks apart on different days of the week, the third draw was the week after the second with the fourth the day after that.
But then things seemed to settle into a two weekly rhythm – not always the same day of the week but mostly draws were two weeks apart.
That lasted around three months and then we had a gap of over a month with no draws.
The gap was ended by a PNP and CEC draw followed by another PNP three weeks later (the only draw in June).
Then we had seven draws in quick succession in the first three weeks of July.
Right now we seem to be back in a rough rhythm of draws every 2 weeks. Often a PNP, CEC and a category based draw all in the same week.
I hope you found the insight useful – let me know what you think in the comments.

is it not a good time then to apply under FSW program?
That’s a tough question to answer. I guess it’s not the best time to apply but if I were you I’d still get my application in the Express Entry pool. IRCC will start doing FSW program draws when they’re able and if you’re not in the pool then there’s zero chance of you getting an ITA. The downside might be your language test expiring before you get an ITA which would cost you money to retake.
Great work!!
Thanks very much! 🙂
It seems like CEC draws have abruptly stopped. Is there a reason for this and is the next CEC draw more likely to be for next year since Canada has exceeded its immigration quota for this year?
We’d need a crystal ball to know for certain what IRCC are doing. It does seem that IRCC is on track to meet its target of 401,000 newcomers in 2021 but the draws being done now don’t have a massive impact on the 2021 immigration numbers as those applicants drawn now won’t have their immigration finalised until next year. Maybe IRCC are going to revert to the pre-pandemic norm of not doing targeted CEC draws and relying on “all-program” draws for CEC candidates. We’ll just need to watch and see.
I agree, great work! Thanks for the information and CRS analysis.
